Mima's slippers (2021)
Mima's slippers is a love letter to the grandmothers who carried entire worlds in their hands. This piece honours the quiet grace of Moroccan matriarchs - the women who woke before the sun and who filled the home with warmth... and food.
The leather slippers, 'Belgha', are a symbol of home: soft steps across the cool 'Zellij', the scent of mint tea drifting through open Riad courtyards, laughter spilling into alleyways of the 'Derb'. They hold childhood memories of running between neighbours' homes, being sent to buy sweets with a single Dirham and returning to kiss Mima who always had time... time to listen, to love.
This art work is about belonging. About the women who shaped us. About the kindness and generosity we inherit.
